All About Air Conditioners for Server Rooms
Computer server rooms have become the heart of almost every organisation. It is of paramount concern to ensure that computer hardware is running at an optimal temperate to ensure that servers do not overheat causing them to slow down, shut down or, in severe cases, a total crash causing in some cases loss of data. Paying that little bit more for the best quality air conditioning equipment in this vital room can work out much more cost-effective than installing a generic brand where the risk of failure is far greater.
Whether you’re trying to cool a single server or an entire server room, The Air Conditioning Company have the expertise to keep your servers cool all year round. When recommending an air conditioner for a server room our surveyors will ask you about your future plans for the room (e.g. if you are planning to upgrade your systems, add extra servers and/or computers) to make sure that we specify the right unit to future-proof the installation, taking care of any additional heat load.
We provide a free site survey no matter how big or small the job. All surveys are carried out by our experienced air conditioning engineers who can tackle even the toughest of server room installations.

SINGLE SPLIT?
Single-Split Air Conditioner
Single-split air conditioners are the ideal option for server rooms as it is vital that the unit is independent from any other air conditioners that you may have in your office. Therefore, multi-split systems and VRF systems are not suitable. Single-split air conditioners have one internal cooling unit and one external condenser box.

Ideal Systems for Server Rooms: Wall-Mounted Air Conditioners
Wall-mounted air conditioners are the most frequently used aircon units used in server rooms. Wall units are used for many reasons in server rooms. Firstly, you can direct the cold air directly at the server so they are kept as cool as possible. There are also specific wall-mounted air conditioning models that are purpose-built to deal with the intense, constant cooling that a server room requires.
We always avoid cheap models that are designed for home/office use that will offer very little longevity and will usually go ‘kaput’ when you need them most!
In organisations where the consequences of a failed server, if only for an hour or two, can be deemed catastrophic (for example, a financial trading floor) we strongly advise that an extra air conditioning unit is installed as an emergency backup. Better be safe than sorry! If you would like to be extra safe, then ask our surveyors when they visit you.

Under-Ceiling Units for Server Rooms
The only other solution we recommend for server rooms is under-ceiling air conditioners. These units are used when a higher-powered option than a wall-mounted unit is needed. This extra power (up to 14kW) can handle up to 6 additional servers or even a larger room.
Both under-ceiling and wall-mounted units should be placed away from electronic equipment as there is a risk of leaking if they are not regularly maintained. The Air Conditioning Company are confident that our installation will last the test of time which is why we offer a 5-year warranty on all our server room installations.
Emergency Portable Air Conditioners for Server Rooms
If your existing server room air conditioner has broken down then we can get you an emergency portable air conditioner within 4 working hours if you are in London (and next day anywhere else in the UK). You can either hire or buy these portable aircon units by simply calling our expert team or ordering online.
We have specialist industrial portable units that are designed to cope with the hot and harsh conditions of server rooms (see our Airrex portable air conditioners). We can also arrange to send an air conditioning engineer to your premises to repair your existing faulty unit.
